Kingdom of France
Royaume de France
House of Bourbon

The Kingdom of France was one of the most powerful states to exist in Europe during the second millennium. It originated from the Western portion of the Frankish empire, and consolidated significant power and influence over the next thousand years. Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King, developed a powerful state and legal theory of absolute monarchy. Eventually, the influences of the French Enlightenment, the growing costs of the American War of Independence that France entirely supported, the rise of political awareness and the bourgeois need of political empowerment caused the French Revolution, as the Kingdom gave way to the similarly named constitutional Kingdom of France and then the French First Republic.

The Family Titles and Styles

The members of the Orléanist branch who are not products of morganatic marriages have been accorded the title of Prince or Princess d'Orléans, together with the formal appellation of His or Her Royal Highness, unless other titles are shown and the children of the head and the heir apparent of that line have now been accorded the title Prince or Princess of France together with the formal appellation of His or Her Royal Highness.
